pLAces What to see... where to be... where to be seen. CORE PILATES NYC now open in LA Opening launch party featured a warm vibe, tours of the cool space (at NE corner of Wilshire and La Brea, second floor) -- plus Vitamin Water, healthy desserts, vintage footage of pilates exercises, a silent auction and raffle for charity, and a consciousness-raised crowd who gathered to celebrate this now-bicoastal establishment. On Nov. 2 they held an open house party, attended by actress Sharon Lawrence and many others, to raise awareness about Prop 87. Speakers, including Kate Lutz as well as Permacity's owner, discussed how 87's passage would aid the effort to shift off fossil fuels. Speaking of that shift, Permacity is doing something amazing: converting businesses to total non-"brown" power (example: one biz in Chatsworth installed an array of solar panels on its roof, and now uses all green -- or should I say yellow -- power). We imagine the savings and positive goodwill generated more than pays for the conversion costs. The LA Report also saw a flyer describing another very cool project, coming soon: a "Spirit of Lindbergh" trek with the goal of travelling coast-to-coast in a car without refueling. LOVE this idea! Gallery 1988 A great arty hangout on Melrose near La Brea, in the heart of Los Angeles. Their art exhibits often feature videogame-inspired works, and/or the work of emerging young artists; their art receptions typically feature DJ's, free drinks and a packed house teeming with people, often spilling out into the front and back of the gallery. The space has also hosted book signings, and private videogame-themed parties like their E3 2006 conference party by Capcom.
