Protect Yourself From Frivolous Section 8 Tenants and their Attorneys
Hello fellow landlords. In 2020 California passed AB329 which said that landlords could not turn down or discriminate against tenants who were receiving rental housings assistance aka Section 8. Many landlords were not really aware of this as we were probably more focused on the C19 laws that affected our ability to run our buildings.
I follow a landlord centric law firm based in the Bay Area. Bornstein Law puts out great information on Statewide landlord and rent control issues. Of course they also comment on San Francisco related issues but obviously this local issues do not apply to SoCal landlords. Nevertheless, a lot of the statewide intel they provide is very valuable and up to date . Please watch the video that Bornstein law produced by clicking here.
Here is a link to another article they wrote. https://bornstein.law/legal-shake-downs-when-section-8-tenants-are-shunned/
The bottom line is NEVER say or advertise that you won’t rent to Section 8 tenants and NEVER turn someone down simply because they are section 8 tenants. Please read the article and watch the video to educate and arm yourself against frivolous lawsuits. Thank you.
As always, I am here to answer any questions. By the way, I am not giving legal advice just legal awareness as to important issues for Landlords. If you need an attorney let me know and I can put you in touch with several good landlord attorneys, thank you.
